Everyone is looking for some Self Care especially recently it has become such a buzzword. I truly think people realized how exhausted they were during COVID and how we don't spend enough time doing things for ourselves. I know I for one spent a great deal of time investing in myself again and trying to rekindle my passions for things I enjoy. In the process of trying to spend more time on myself and what brought me joy, I found this book.

Dr. Jennifer Ashton is a respected doctor and health authority who has made appearances on Good Morning America. In this book, she takes you on her journey to improve her own health with different monthly challenges. She takes you through her ups and downs as she tries to accomplish different tasks to become a healthier person. With each chapter, she explains a monthly challenge, walks you through her process of accomplishing this challenge, and reflects on the importance of the challenge taping into the science, benefits, and ways to make it work for you.

I originally borrowed this book off of Prime Kindle Reads for the purpose of working on myself in 2021. I wanted to try and accomplish each challenge right along with Dr. Ashton. I realized that though that would be a good goal in terms of reading and doing symultainously I was not able to really put it into action. I did pretty well at first with Dry January but as the months progressed and I ended up returning to school time flew by and I didn't take the time to read this non-fiction text or work on those challenges. Some parts are dryer than others. Though I did like the concept and how Dr. Ashton is open with her faults and failures (i.e. the chocolate/ sugar chapter) I really found myself reaching for more fiction texts to liven my mood after long days of work.

Overall I wouldn't say it was a bad book by any means and I might have really enjoyed it at another time, but I felt at times it drained on. I gave it 3 out of 5 stars. The content is useful and gives you ideas for challenges you can set for yourself and explains the health benefits. I might suggest the audible version if you are looking at working through it month by month with her just because you could turn it on in the shower or when you're doing the dishes similar to a podcast. I find that non-fiction texts are easier to get through when they are read to me at least. Regardless it's a good read overall, slow at parts, but has good info if you are trying to work on making healthier choices for yourself.
